Look at the extraordinary images the poet uses to describe walls and the means to cirvent them! In everyday life we are faced with barriers, we are separated literally and figuratively from the people around us, but in the poem these struggles are set in relation to Jericho, the Wailing Wall, prison walls, castle walls. They begin to seem dramatic and important.
